Minutes….The regularly scheduled monthly meeting of the Remsen Town Board was held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 and called to order by Supervisor Roger Helmer at 6:34PM at the Remsen Town Hall.

Jim Reilly and Mark Williams informed the Board that the Remsen Central School Budget vote will take place May 16th from 1-8pm in the elementary cafeteria. There are four main items: 2% increase to the tax levy, the purchase of a new bus, establishing another capital reserve fund, and election of a new school board candidate. An offer has been made to a new Superintendent.
The minutes for the April 12, 2017 regular meeting were read and accepted.
Supervisor Helmer advised the Board that he has been in contact with State officials regarding the Dustin Road Bridge. The State would like to turn over the land that borders the Town of Remsen approach to the bridge by “owner in fee or permanent easement.” There have been issues involving a retaining wall with a neighboring property owner since the bridge was reconstructed. Supervisor Helmer and Codes Enforcement Grenier plan to visit the property.
Applications for Summer Recreation Program positions have been received. Interviews will be scheduled for Wednesday, May 17th at 6pm and conducted by Supervisor Helmer and Councilman Wilcox.
Sue Martin, NOCCOG, was present to review announcements. There will be a State
Environmental Quality Review (SEQR) Basics meeting on June 8th at
Union Station. The Black River Watershed Conference will be held June 14th.
The deadline for Countywide Shared Services plans will be in September/October.
Robert Wilcox offered Resolution #18-17 to pay the General Fund bills in the amount of $6,873.34 on #5-17 Abstract. Seconded by Roger Helmer. Ayes –Helmer, Jones, Wilcox, Hamilton. Nays – 0.
Duane Jones offered Resolution #19-17 to pay the Highway Fund bills in the amount of $12,067.82 on #5-17 Abstract. Seconded by Donna Hamilton. Ayes –Helmer, Jones, Wilcox, Hamilton. Nays – 0.
Codes Enforcement Officer, Adrian Grenier, submitted a report for April.
Kristy Allen, Town Clerk, submitted a report for April.
Superintendent Roberts stated that they will be finished with paving preparations soon. The Town will be receiving $14,751 in winter storm Stella recovery funds. Representatives from MV Freightliner will be present at next month’s meeting to discuss truck lease options.
Supervisor Helmer stated that a Community Revitalization Committee has been formed. Residents in the Town and Village may volunteer to assist with small projects to improve the aesthetics of the Village and Town. The group has been organized under the Remsen Development Corporation and will be distributing a newsletter soon.
